Linn-Benton's Mindful Market: The Path to a Campus Food Pantry

Image
The Mindful Market made its Linn-Benton debut on Jan. 12 in the Commons Cafeteria at the Albany Campus. The pop-up market provided a resource for LBCC students who struggle with food security. Katelynn Anstey, a Student Leadership event organizer, said the Mindful Market aims to provide students with ingredients for easy-to-prepare meals that students can cook at home. The market also connects students with off-campus food-security resources. Meals offered to students included veggie pasta and chicken burrito bowls. Breakfast foods such as  oatmeal, and smaller snack foods such as chips and fruits were also offered. Students were invited to take what they needed. The Mindful Market is planning to run once per term, but LBCC Student Leadership is hoping the market paves the way for a student food pantry on campus that students can access at any time. The recent event ran for three hours, and saw around 80 students stop by for food resources. “The goal is to show that we do have stud...

My career in esports journalism - Jayden S. (Final Project)

I’ve been a gamer my entire life, I love playing, watching, and learning about all sorts of different games. In middle school, I would get out of school and run straight to my xbox to hop online and play with my friends. I would play minecraft, or destiny, or skyrim late into the night. To relax, I would go to youtube to watch a video of the same game I was playing. In high school, I learned about the world of esports, and became hooked. Back then, esports was a dramatically different industry. It was fueled by passion, without concern about a paycheck. The modern esports industry is a thriving environment, where players and teams can make enough money to live. For my project, I wanted to look at the journalism industry in esports, and what it would be like to attempt to start a career in the industry.      I decided to look at multiple esports journalists, including esports personalities who have done journalism work in the past. I primarily looked at...

The Willamette Living is a magazine that specializes in local business and relies on local residents, trying to cater to them. Willamette Living has articles that are actually written by local business owners. For example, Justin Read, the owner of a nursery in Corvallis, writes an article about planning your garden for spring. These articles are exclusive to the print version of the magazine. It also offers advertisements for local businesses, art programs, restaurants, and community members. All of these ideas combine to build a great theme of a local magazine that cares deeply about its community. The biggest difference between the online and print versions of the magazine are the amount of ads. Online, the website contains 3 ads on the home page. When you click on an article it only contains a single ad, located at the bottom of the page after you have finished reading the article. This ad doesn't interrupt your reading, which is a large strength and makes the reading experienc...
Hi there everyone, my name is Jayden, im a student at LBCC who is studying psychology! Ive lived in Oregon for most of my life, and would love to move to Australia after my education is complete! I've lived in Australia for around 6 months throughout my life, and fell in love with the country the moment I stepped off the plane. I hope to being my professional life in social work, helping teenagers who struggle with depression, ADHD, and anxiety, once I fully move there. I'm a big sports fan, specifically interested in the NFL and basketball. I also love to cook, play video games, and spend time with friends.      I'm hoping to learn a lot about maintaining a healthy relationship with the ever evolving media landscape. With everything going on in The United States, much less other intense conflicts in other countries, I've been struggling with finding a way to stay informed without allowing the discourse to overwhelm my life. I think I'm starting to fin...
